Additional Medicare coverage
Because Medicare Parts A and B do not include prescription drug coverage, Medicare Part D provides retirees with the option of voluntary prescription drug coverage, which is offered through private insurance companies and is purchased with monthly premiums. Anyone enrolled in Parts A and B is eligible for Part D insurance, which can help lower your prescription drug costs and protect against higher costs in the future.
To help pay for out-of-pocket expenses like deductibles and co-payments as well as fill the coverage gaps for Parts A and B, you can purchase a supplemental policy known as Medigap. Medigap insurance is sold through private insurance companies and must be purchased during a 6-month window that starts 3 months before your 65th birthday.
